Our house is not the biggest nor the cleanest but this our castle and we love it. I remember when we were just planning to build this house we wanted it to be welcoming and open. We wanted to let the sunshine into our home.
Because here in the Philippines, we believe that letting sunshine into your house is good luck. It brings all the blessings in and keeps bad luck out. So we talked to our builders on how to do this. They recommended a lot of things: increase the number of windows, make the house face where the sun rises, paint the inside of the house with light colors, and more things I could not remember anymore. We followed all of their suggestions and agreed to their design of our dream house. We found out the building a house does not always go smoothly as planned you need to expect problems along the way, its normal. You need to be flexible and understand how to compromise, then find a solution to the problem. The problem with too many windows and doors is that when they are open, sunlight and wind enters your home. So does bugs and mosquito. Good thing our builders recommended to put retractable screenson our window and Retractable Screen Doors.
Our house now welcome airflow and sunlight reducing our electricity consumption while keeping mosquitos and other bugs outside. In the future we are planning to add a new patio with a wide opening with big retractable screen doors. This is where we plan to spend afternoon summers keeping cool while spending time with the whole family.
