San Miguel Pale Pilsen is the most iconic Filipino beer. It has been around since 1890 for 125 years it has been on top of every drinking table around the Philippines to witness important life events, special occasion and social gatherings. Every family gathering we had when I was little I can always see San Miguel Pale Pilsen at the middle of the table being tossed around and banged together by my tito’s and older cousins.
This beer is my comfort beer when I just want to sit around with a couple of my best buds without any rules, anything goes. My buds and I will start with 2 bottles just to say that we just want to relax and talk about anything under the sun. As the drinking session progress we forget how many bottles we had. It is a beer that just gets you to relax and sit back and let go of all the bad vibes you’ve been keeping. And it is unpretentious, it does not matter whether you drink it inside a bar, at the porch, in the garage or outside the streets. What matter most is the camaraderie you build when you drink together with someone important to you.
One question that is very important to all Filipinos is “Anong pulutan?”. As this beer is very resilient it can be paired with almost anything. Because of this beer’s history with Filipinos I am sure a lot of us have a favorite “pulutan” in mind. For this instance I went with something that is easy to prepare and plus I did not have the chance to go to the market lately.
Whether you are pairing it with something traditional, a family recipe, something bought from the sari-sari store for 1 peso, or left over from last night’s birthday or gathering. Whatever the case may be, this beer will surely be in the middle of the table and tossed around, cheers, be part of our “Sabado nights” for another 125 years.
Talagang “Iba ang may pinag samahan” with San Miguel Pale Pilsen…
