Having time to chill out is always something everyone should have. For me chilling out could simply mean having a fine drink and a nice “Pulutan”. I won’t try to be an expert, since I am not one. So for those of you who are looking for technical terms and descriptive details, I have none. But I will try to describe every bit of my experience as bluntly as I can. Here we go.
Bacardi 8 year Old Rum surprised me with its well-balanced flavors and smoky hint at the end. I’ve always liked whisky because I love the smokiness. I never expected this in Rum. I was expecting sweetness and fruity flavors that you usually find with Rums. Maybe it has something to do with the age of the Rum and was aged inside oak barrels. The bottle itself is elegant and finely crafted with a very unique case making you feel that you’re opening a very important package which after drinking you’ll find out that you are.
My “Pulutan” is a nice piece of Tuna sashimi complete with Kikkoman soy sauce, calamansi, and wasabi. Planning your “Pulutan” is very important because it completes the drinking experience and also complements your drink. The sweetness of the tuna dunked in the salty-sour kikkoman-calamansi sauce plus that spicy kick coming from the wasabi completes the circle of joy. Indeed it is a great night to celebrate life.
